Hello reader, this post is about the battery which we use in Electric Scooters, many are unaware about the battery types available in market and due to insufficient knowledge customers are confused and some dealer will miss guide them for their profit, we will help you to choose battery as per your application and requirement, after reading this you article, you’ll be able to choose battery for your EV.

At present, their are only 3 types of batteries are used in EV market and many types of batteries will come soon, most commonly used batteries are.

  • Lead acid battery
  • Lithium ion battery (Li-ion)
  • Lithium ferophospate battery (LFP)

all above mentioned batteries are having some Advantages and Dis-advantages as well.

Lead acid batteries:

These batteries are pocket friendly and commonly used in the market but now days, all the EV makers replacing these batteries with Li-ion and LFP cause of its its short life and less efficient compare to other batteries.

Pro’s of Lead Acid Batteries

  • Budge friendly
  • Less fire hazard
  • Even suitable for higher temperature regions

Con’s

  • Very short life span (1 year to 1 & half year)
  • Required more space
  • Heavy
  • Less Efficient
  • Difficult to carry
  • Available in 12V so we need connect individual batteries to get rate voltage for EV

Lithium ion battery (Li-ion):

We all using Li-ion battery in our day today life, knowing and unknowingly. The battery which is present in the Cellphone, power-bank and Bluetooth speaker is the Li-ion but which is very small, for EV battery such small cell connected in series and parallel to develop the bigger battery bank.

80 percentage of EV makers are presently using these batteries due below mentioned advantage

Pro’s

  • Required less space compared to LA and LFP
  • Efficient
  • Longer life up to 3 to 4 year
  • High charge density
  • Lighter compare to LA and LFP
  • Come in single case
  • Light weight

Con’s

  • Costly
  • Thermal Runaway may occur

Lithium ferophospate battery (LFP)

LFP’s are of bigger in size compare to Li-ion but efficient as Li-ion. these are having higher life span compare Li-ion. Even these are connected in series and parallel to get desired voltage range

Pro’s

  • Higher efficiency
  • Robust
  • Long life up-to 5 year
  • Durable

Con’s

  • Bigger and heavy
  • Costlier than the Li-ion
  • Less energy density

Caution :

  • Please always connect your battery terminals properly.
  • Loose contact may create hazards situation.
  • Avoid parking in direct sunlight if possible.
  • Don’t connect it for charging immediately after riding.
